Label announces album release dates
On this date of August 2nd 2021, marking the 92nd anniversary of the birth of José Afonso, Mais 5 announces the release dates for the first three albums from José Afonso lined up for release via Mais 5.
Cantares do Andarilho, recorded in 1968, will be released on October 1st, International Music Day, in digital and CD digifile formats. Due to the present vinyl manufacturing delays, the LP will be delayed until Nov,. 26th.
Contos Velhos Rumos Novos will follow, on the 29th of October (CD and digital formats), followed by Traz Outro Amigo Também on Nov. 26th – at which point all three albums will be available in all three formats. The release schedule will resume in Spring ’22 with the next chronological album, Cantigas do Maio. The first three albums in CD and LP format are now on pre-sale via the FNAC.pt website.
Label manager Nuno Saraiva comments, “It is an honour to be working with such great people on these releases, which we trust will be the definitive versions of José Afonso’s recorded output. Working with agent Alain Vachier, who was José’s agent and shared so much on the road with him, and also with the legendary original artist of these album covers, José Santa-Bárbara, who is shepherding our graphic design work carried out by João Morais aka O Gajo… these are all amazing people to be working with, all for the greater purpose of returning these historic albums to the Portuguese people and in fact, the whole world.”
The release schedule also foresees digital singles to be released ahead of each album, with Mais 5 being digitally distributed by One Level:UP Music Distribution, Portugal’s first digital distributor to be affiliated with both the MERLIN Network and AMAEI, the Portuguese Independent Music Trade Association.
